Phajoding Monastery

Phajoding is a Buddhist Monastery and it is 3 hours uphill hike from Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. In 2010, Phajoding Monastery was watch listed as five endangered cultural monuments that needs attention by the world monument fund. Phajoding was founded by the 13th century tibetan highly revered saint Phajo Drugom Zhigpo. A hike to Phajoding is refreshing and the view of the capital city from Phajoding is magnificent and panaromic.

Thimphu Memorial Chorten

The Memorial Chorten (Mound-like-stupa) in Thimphu was built in the year 1974 in memory of the late third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck of Bhutan. Late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck is also known as the "Father of Modern Bhutan" It is located in the middle of the city and it is also considered one of the important and sacred landmarks of the capital city. Regular prayers for world peace are being held at the memorial chorten by revered Buddhist spiritual masters. This place is also frequently visited by all the city dwellers of Thimphu. ​

Dochula Pass - Druk Wangyel Festival

The Dochula Pass at an elevation of 3,100 metres offers stunning and panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges on a clear day. Two important landmarks of the pass are the 108 Druk Wangyal Khangzang Chorten (Stupa) and the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (Temple) built by Her Majesty Azhi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck the Queen Mother. The 108 Druk Wangyal Khangzang Chorten are beautifully built on the hillock, it was built in honor of the soldiers who lost their lives during the battle with the Assamese Immigrants in 2003 and it was also built as a tribute to his Majesty The Fourth King Who led the soldiers to the battle field. The construction of the Chortens were completed by June, 2004. The Druk Wangyal Lhakhang was built in the year 2008, it was built as a memorial to celebrate 100 years of monarchy and to pay tribute to the self-less Monarchs of Bhutan. In the year 2011, an annual festival was also instituted at the pass on 13th December to commemorate the victory of his Majesty the Fourth King and the armed forces against the Assamese insurgents. The festival is held every year on the 13th December amidst the beautiful backdrop of the Himalayan ranges.

Royal Botanical Park - Lampelri

The Royal Botanical Park in Lampelri, Thimphu is the first botanical park in Bhutan and the park was opened in 2008 to commemorate the coronation of His majesty the fifth King of Bhutan. The park is set up in an area of 120 Square KM, it is very popular for the garden of rhododendrons within it and the park also has a beautiful lake known as Lake Baritsho. The park is set up at an elevation between 2,100 meters  - 3,750 meters, the park is ideally located en-route to central Bhutan, therefore travelers make it a point to visit the Park en-route to central Bhutan. The best time to visit the park is from March – August when more than 40 species of rhododendron bloom and fill the park. The park has a very rich bio-diversity, the park officials have identified 46 species of birds and also 21 animals like deer, leopard and tiger. Every year, in the month of April the Park holds three days of annual Rhododendron Festival to celebrate the blossoming of more than 40 species of Rhododendron and also the rich biodiversity of the park, with cultural programs, folk songs and Bhutanese cuisines.
