Chime Lhakhang

The Chime Lhakhang (Temple) in a village called Sosokha (10 KM away from Punakha District) was built in the year 1499 by a Buddhist saint Ngawang Choegyel after the site's blessing by the Buddhist saint Lam Drukpa Kunley popularly known as the "Divine Madman." The Divine Madman is a saint who used different and unorthodox ways of teaching Buddhism, and he is the one who advocated the use of phallus symbols in Bhutanese painting and crafts. The temple is also known as the temple of fertility, whereby many childless couples visit the temple seeking blessings for a child. There are true stories of childless couples blessed with a child after visiting the temple.
